With only 5 they handed the opportunity to us.

I'm just glad we took it

Certainly looks that way. But can we trick her into thinking that cross-country isn't hell on earth? I mean, that is, let her know what a positive delight it is?

It's not hell on earth Charlie. Unless you mean the earthy muddy boggy variety. Then that would make you spot on!

Let's get this right. The Men run about for half an hour, the ladies run about for a bit less. We put the tent up an hour before our ladies race, take it down an hour after the men's race. The rest of the time we ARE enjoying ourselves and (not always a good idea) eating, drinking and generally having a good time. If this is hell on earth, I don't want to be around when it is. The last 2 -3 years we have had the most fantastic fun at the cross countries with ever growing participation. I still have fond memories of our Nationals at Alton Towers when all the sky blue vests ran onto the course to warm up.

Come on folks, let's get this sorted. I will (soon) start to rally you round for this year's races. Lots of you have asked Mike and me to make sure you are counted in for the races. You are all in for the Staffordshire races and we will let you know about running the Cheshire's, Northerns and National soon.

Further point on XC. Some men glide over the ground like small hovercraft for about half an hour, others of us slip and slide in increasing bucketfuls of mud for longer, thinking only of finishing and devouring vast quantities of homemade cake in the tent afterwards! However, slower members helped the club to gain awards last season by their commitment to the cause. We also managed to have a finishing men's team in this years national championship in London.

Echo latter comment being a slower runner.

Judging by discussions i have had over past few weeks with many of ladies, us men might find ourselves in the minority at Newcastle next saturday!
