Sandstone Trail Races - 4 October

Postby charlie_r on Mon Jul 20, 2009 6:18 pm

Just another plug for these races, of approximately 17 miles and 10 miles, both finishing in the middle of Delamere Forest.

The longer one is in our off-road champs (and contains the more picturesque running), but the shorter run is an eminently manageable option for anyone keen to try a trail race but a bit daunted by 17 miles. The shorter race starts (at Beeston) an hour after the longer race, so runners from both races are intermingled after that point.

General info is here: http://www.deeside-orienteering-club.org.uk/sstrail/

The (slightly unnecessarily fiddly) online entry form is here: http://www.fabian4.co.uk/default.aspx?EventID=207

And the list of those keen enough to have signed up already is here (Lorna, Andy and Liz, Pat, Mike, Paul B among the Harriers signed up so far): http://www.fabian4.co.uk/start/list.aspx?EventID=207

Entries will close well before the race, based on the last couple of years. Well worth doing this one.

My rough and ready mental arithmetic makes it 171 entries to date in the main 'A' race, with a stated limit of 190 per race. Anyone in the men's off-road champs who hasn't yet got their qualifying long run in, and hasn't already entered this, needs to get their skates on.

James, this basically means you.

The A race is full (which is the one that features in our off-road champs). But still, by my reckoning 30-odd places left in the 10 mile B race, starting near Beeston Castle if anyone fancies it.

Also, anyone who just fancies a nice stroll in the Delamere area that morning, it's always nice to get a bit of support towards the end of 17 miles. If you do come, bring sports drinks and bags of sweets!

Anyone able to give us a lift back to the start, as usual poor planning on my behalf.

Good turnout by the club again today, Nicky Lowe was 2nd lady in the long run. This really is a must do race folks.

That wasn't an easy race, nice views though.

Club Highlights include me taking a tour of the castle at 7.5 miles.
Rich B made his own course :? was 17.5 miles not far enough?
Rob R Broke 2h 30min
Nicky was second lady, I don't think the prizes 'stretched' that far though, I may be mistaken as I had to leave in disgust.

Congratulations to everyone who completed this.....you're all winners in my eyes. A fabulous achievement.

Is there still time for Nicky to get an entry for the Snowdon marathon? The bigger the challenge, the better the result - well done!

I can't believe Pat is bigging up some piffling sub-2.30 effort when a sibling of that athlete stuffed his pb for the 2nd year running and ran sub-2.19! Scandalous.

Nicky was excellent and will win this next year which, until she turns 40, is sadly the only way she can get a prize! Well done everyone who took it on (A and B racers both), and well done Rich for getting lost and gifting me a bonus off-road point.

Rob will be on presently to discuss where he's going to find 10 minutes from next year.
