Calling all Ladies.....5K race 1st July

Postby Alasdair & Sarah on Wed May 13, 2009 7:22 pm

Some of you will be aware that us ladies have a 5K race all to ourselves which counts towards club championships. It's on Wednesday evening 1st July at Forest Park at Birchwood just off the M62 near Warrington. A single circuit round the park on tarmac path - no hills, no traffic and no men!

Some of us ran it last year and afterwards celebrated with a picnic and well earned glass of vino which we will continue this year.

This is an ideal race for those who have not raced before - there is no pressure and attracts female runners of all abilities and speeds.

However there is a team prize that offers a real opportunity for us to continue our current winning ways.

I'll bring some entry forms down on club night on Thursday 13th or you can check the website out at http://www.spectrumstriders.org.uk/race ... /index.htm

So come on let's show the men what we can do, and for a change, make them do the supporting  (which they did do last year)

Sounds good (except the no men bit). Do you know if you can enter on the night?

I sent my form off yesterday! If any one would like a lift, just let me know!
P.s. the summer series seem like good fun. I ran the Wetton race last night. Tough, but a real mixture of people. I ran for a bit with 2 ladies that only took up running a couple of months ago. They had only just joined a club and recently got up to running for an hour, but at mile 3 they were really enjoying joining in a race in the countryside! I'm going to try and do as many as I can. Anyone fancy joining me?

Love the profile pic there Liz!

Entered the ladies 5K yesterday too!

I've heard some great things about the Summer series, would love to do at least 1 or 2 races. I'll sort out leaving work early one Thursday so I can. Will let you know.

Yes, I've got the tent (and flags), You're welcome to collect it at any time but I'm in London over the weekend (Lesley is still here) or I can drop it off. Let me know.

Hi Ladies,

I am struggling to get babysitters Wed night - unfortunately middle of the week is tricky for me to arrange.
I will have last try tomorrow, but not hopeful - sorry to be rubbish team member, and sounds like will be lovely night
Hope it goes well if I dont make it - good luck :D

when trying to keep up with Mike on Sunday he mentioned we may have a team picnic after the race like last year.

I'll be there to 'support' (woe betide anyone without a sprint finish  ) and we'll try and bring some food.

On the basis Mike has also knobbled me I'd like to volunteer him for babysitting duties while you run Ruth.
